To whom it may concern:
We, the undersigned staff of Advancing Justice – Chicago and Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus, express full and unwavering solidarity with the union staff at Advancing Justice – Los Angeles.
In recent days, interim leadership and the board of directors at Advancing Justice-LA authorized massive layoffs. This announcement includes directly affected community members running essential programs and leading impactful advocacy for AANHPI communities.
The firings are reprehensible, unjust, and a direct retaliation against union members who have been working in good faith to reach a collective bargaining agreement.
The actions taken by an unaccountable, temporary executive director do not serve the needs of Asian Americans in the Los Angeles area, directly contradict the progressive values that APALC and Advancing Justice-LA have long claimed to hold, and weaken the national movement of AANHPI advocacy that the organization has historically helped build.
We join the call for a moratorium on layoffs until the board of directors, interim Advancing Justice-LA leadership and union staff agree on a finalized collective bargaining agreement.
