On Thursday, at the 36th Annual Gala, Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA was scheduled to award the Education Impact Award to Harvard Activist Students involved in the current Harvard University Affirmative Action Lawsuit, who bravely support a race-conscious college admissions system. In the wake of the Advancing Justice-LA Board and Interim Management’s decision to layoff 20% of staff, and continued failure to sign a collective bargaining agreement with the union, among other conduct, the Harvard Activist Students withdrew their acceptance of the award.
The union applauds the Harvard Activist Students’ selfless and courageous act of solidarity with AAAJ-LA staff, including those laid off and those who remain employed. We are truly grateful for the community love we have received, both near and far.
Below is their letter from the students to the Founding Executive Director Stewart Kwoh, and Board Chair Nita Song.
